Pioneers Open Up Citrus Conference Play
FORT PIERCE, FL- Indian River State College kicked off Citrus Conference play with a dominant 6-1 win over Daytona State College. The Pioneers initially led 11-1 in the top of the eighth inning before rain halted play, reverting the final score back to the seventh inning. With the win, Indian River improves to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Lucas Glendinning took the mound for the Pioneers, earning his second win of the season. The right-hander delivered a career-high 10 strikeouts over five and two-thirds innings, allowing just two hits and one run. Key West native Andris Barroso secured his first save of the year, pitching one and one-third innings of perfect relief.
The Pioneers' offense started slow, managing only one run through the first five innings. However, the bats came alive in the later frames, driving in 10 runs between the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, putting the game out of reach for the Falcons.
Jason and Matt Lashley had standout performances at the plate, combining for eight hits and four RBIs. The rest of the lineup contributed to an explosive offensive effort, tallying a season-high 17 hits—showing a strong bounce-back from the team's previous loss.
Indian River will return to action at home as they host Daytona State for a Citrus Conference doubleheader this Saturday, February 15 at Mike Easom Field.
