Indian River Drops One at Home

Indian River Drops One at Home

FORT PIERCE, FL- Indian River fell short in a high-scoring non-conference showdown on Tuesday, April 22 dropping a 14-8 decision at home to Miami Dade College. The loss moves The River to 32-13 overall on the season.

Indian River came out strong, jumping to a 6-2 lead by the third inning. But the tide turned in the fifth, when the Sharks exploded for nine runs to take control of the game and never looked back. The former Southern Conference rival Miami Dade hit three home runs and collected 12 hits of their own as they took the lead.

Costly errors and free passes plagued The River, making it difficult to regain momentum. Still, the offense showed signs of life, collecting nine hits in the back-and-forth contest. Jacob Suazo led the charge at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple. Shawn Andrade and Nico Lopez each chipped in with RBIs.

Jonathan Woalver got the start on the mound, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) over 2.1 innings while striking out three. The bullpen combined to cover the final five innings, adding five strikeouts of their own.

Indian River will look to bounce back at home this Thursday, April 24 as they kick off their final conference series of the season against Central Florida.
