The River Opens With a Win

FORT PIERCE, FL - The River were victorious in their home opener, defeating Palm Beach State College 5–1 on Friday.

Indian River State College opened the scoring in the second inning when Vinny Dinzeo grounded out to bring home a run. They added to the lead as the game went on, applying steady offensive pressure while backing it up with strong pitching and defense.

Shane Lavin earned the win, allowing just two hits and no runs over four innings while striking out four and walking two. Hernandez started for Palm Beach State College, giving up no hits and no runs over one inning with two strikeouts and two walks. Anthony Linares was dominant in relief for the Pioneers, tossing three shutout innings while allowing four hits, striking out three, and issuing no walks.

Offensively, Andy Schroeder and Niko Benested each collected two hits and drove in two runs to pace the River. The team remained aggressive on the basepaths, stealing three bases, and played clean defense by turning two double plays.

For Palm Beach State College, Federico drove in the lone run. Senecal led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Reimann and Pardo also recorded multiple hits. Palm Beach State College turned one double play in the game.

Indian River State College heads to Auburndale tomorrow, January 24th, for two games against Hillsborough Community College and Seminole State College in non-conference action.
