The River Dominates Northeast Mississippi at Panama City JUCO Classic
PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL - River Baseball traveled to the Panhandle to play at the Panama City Beach JUCO Baseball Classic.
Jacob Souza drove in four runs on three hits to lead Indian River to a 13–1 victory over Northeast Mississippi on Thursday. He doubled in two runs in the fourth, singled in a run in the third, and added another on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The River got on the board in the bottom of the first when Pina singled to drive in a run. They added another in the second on a sacrifice fly by Joe Amunategui to make it 2–0.
Indian River extended their lead in the third inning as Jacob Souza singled in a run, Joe Amunategui followed with a two-run single, and Baker reached on a fielder's choice that allowed another run to score. A five-run fifth inning put the game out of reach. Andy Schroeder and Robert Kramer each delivered RBI singles, Jacob Souza added a sacrifice fly, Joe Amunategui was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Baker capped the scoring with an RBI single.
Jonathan Wolaver earned the win for Indian River, allowing two hits and one run over three innings while striking out four and walking one. Osteen took the loss for Northeast Mississippi, allowing two runs on two hits in one and two-thirds innings. The River finished with 14 hits, led by Jacob Souza, David Pina, and Robert Kramer with three apiece. Cam Baker added two hits in three at-bats. The River also stole three bases and turned one double play.
For Northeast Mississippi, Davis drove in the lone run, while Eaton went 2-for-3 at the plate. Northeast Mississippi also turned one double play.
Indian River will play Northwest Florida and Tallahassee State College in a doubleheader tomorrow to wrap up the Panama City JUCO Classic.
