The River Drops Series

FORT PIERCE, FL - The River dropped both ends of a Friday doubleheader to State College of Florida, falling 3-1 in game one and 12-4 in game two despite strong individual performances at the plate and solid defensive efforts throughout the day.

In the opener, both teams were sharp on the mound in a tightly contested matchup, but State College of Florida capitalized on key opportunities to secure the 3-1 victory.

State College of Florida broke through in the top of the fourth inning. Brauner singled to center field to drive in a run, and Burd followed with a ground ball that resulted in another run scoring to make it 2-0. The River responded in the bottom half of the inning when Andy Schroeder launched a solo home run to right field, trimming the deficit to 2-1. That would be The River's lone run of the game.

Javi Miranda turned in a solid start for Indian River, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out six and walking three. Radloff went the distance for State College of Florida, surrendering four hits and one run over seven innings with one strikeout and two walks.

Cam Baker led The River with two hits from the seven spot in the lineup, while Andy Schroeder drove in the team's only run. The River was clean defensively, turning two double plays without committing an error. Vinny Dinzeo led the way in the field with eight chances. Brauner and Castellani each drove in a run for State College of Florida, with Castellani going 2-for-2 to pace their offense. They also turned a double play and did not commit an error.

In the nightcap, State College of Florida used early offense and a big sixth inning to pull away for a 12-4 victory.

The River responded in the bottom of the third behind Andy Schroeder, who connected on a three-run home run to right field to cut into the deficit and shift momentum briefly in Indian River's favor.

However, State College of Florida broke the game open in the sixth when Brauner blasted a three-run homer to center. He later added another solo shot in the eighth to cap a six-RBI performance from the cleanup spot and put the game out of reach.

Michael Malone started on the mound for The River, allowing six hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings while striking out three and walking one. Dement earned the win for State College of Florida after giving up seven hits and three runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking two.
