Indian River Falls in Non-Conference Action

MIAMI, FL - Indian River had trouble keeping up with Miami Dade in an 11-1 loss on Tuesday.

Miami Dade jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Areizaga doubled, scoring one run, Colmenarez homered to left field to drive in three runs, and Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another.

Miami Dade added two more runs in the second inning. Mendez singled down the right field line, extending the lead to 7-1.

Nick Burgos pitched three innings in relief for the River. The right-hander allowed two hits and one run while striking out three and walking one. Stedmen started on the mound, surrendering four hits and seven runs (six earned) over one inning with no strikeouts and five walks. Mesa earned the start for Miami Dade, giving up three hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings while striking out two and walking none.

David Pina went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the River with one RBI. Cam Baker added two hits in two at-bats.

Miami Dade totaled 10 hits in the game. Areizaga and Colmenarez were a tough back-to-back combination in the lineup, each driving in three runs. Polanco went 3-for-4 to lead Miami Dade in hits, while Mendez added two hits in three at-bats.

Indian River falls to 9-10-1 on the season. The River will host FSW at home this Thursday, heading into another tough Citrus Conference weekend.
