The River Sweeps Santa Fe
FORT PIERCE, FL - The River picked up a doubleheader sweep over Santa Fe on Thursday, taking the opener 7–4 before earning a 4–3 walk-off victory in 14 innings in game two.
Indian River got things rolling in game one behind a standout performance from Finn Duran, who went 3-for-3 with a home run, double, and single. He singled in the third inning, doubled in the fourth, and blasted a solo home run to left field in the sixth.
Santa Fe struck first in the opening inning when Carhell singled to drive in a run. They added another in the third, as Carhell delivered again with a single down the right field line to make it 2–0.
The River responded in the bottom of the third, taking a 3–2 lead after Jacob Souza singled to drive in two runs and David Pina drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home another. Indian River added insurance in the sixth inning with three runs, highlighted by home runs from Finn Duran and Andy Schroeder.
Blake Anderson earned the win, allowing nine hits and two runs over 5.1 innings, striking out one and walking one. Jonathan Wolaver appeared in relief to close things out.
The River collected 11 hits in the opener. Andy Schroeder and Jacob Souza each drove in two runs, while Cam Baker added two hits. Defensively, The River turned two double plays.
Santa Fe also tallied 11 hits, led by Carhell, who went 3-for-3. Suarez and Carhell each drove in two runs, while Andrade and Chase collected multiple hits.
Game two turned into a marathon, but The River walked it off in the 14th inning to secure the sweep. With the game tied at three, a Santa Fe error allowed the winning run to score and gave Indian River a 4–3 victory.
Andy Schroeder led the offense, going 3-for-6 with a home run, double, and single. He doubled in the first inning, homered to right field in the third to tie the game, and added another hit in the ninth.
Santa Fe took an early lead in the second inning when Castillo singled down the right field line and Mohrad drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
The River answered in the third when Schroeder's home run tied the game at 2–2. Indian River took the lead in the fourth on a single by EJ Burns to make it 3–2.
Santa Fe tied the game again in the sixth, sending the contest into a long extra-innings battle before The River secured the walk-off win in the 14th.
Dane Rossi earned the win in relief, tossing three shutout innings while allowing four hits, striking out five, and walking two. Max Gonzalez started the game, giving up two runs over three innings. The River bullpen of Ethan LaPointe, Michale Malone, Nick Burgos, and John Gillen delivered key scoreless innings to keep the game tied.
The River finished with 11 hits, with Cam Baker, Finn Duran, and Robert Kramer each collecting multiple hits. Kramer also drew three walks, helping Indian River accumulate eight walks as a team. The River stole three bases, turned one double play, and played error-free defense, with Kramer recording 18 chances in the field.
Santa Fe tallied 12 hits, led by Chase, who went 3-for-6. Mohrad, Castillo, and No. 33 each drove in a run, while Espinosa added two hits. Santa Fe also drew eight walks and turned two double plays.
Indian River improves to 13-13-1 overall on the season and 6-9 in the Citrus Conference. The River will head to Lake Sumter Tuesday for midweek action.
