Ocala, Florida – The Pioneers recorded one of its biggest wins of the young season when they defeated the seventh ranked team in the nation, Chipola College, 104-89 in the Central Florida Thanksgiving Classic. Chipola College came into the game with an 8-1 record and ranked seventh in the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Poll.
Each team had several scoring runs during the first half, with Indian River State College (IRSC) taking an early 12-4 advantage. Chipola continued to attack the basket and countered with their own 14-point run and held an 18-12 margin midway through the first half. IRSC would answer the run and took a 50-40 lead into the locker-room at halftime.
The Pioneers picked up the defense in the second half and increased the score to 57-40 and went on to a 104-89 win. Miles Coleman had a big afternoon for IRSC as he poured in 30 points, pulled in 6 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. Other scorers for IRSC were Tanahj Pettway 18, Drew LaMont 16, and Jai Clark added 13 points.
It was definitely a weekend of extreme highs and lows for Indian River State College (IRSC) Men's Basketball Team. They took on the host team Central Florida (CF) Friday evening and lost a heart breaker 98-97. CF took their only lead of the game with 8 seconds remaining when they drove to the basket and convert a tough lay-up. The Pioneers had one more shot, but their three-point attempt fell short. IRSC built up as much as a 12-point lead during the first half, but could never put Central Florida away. Turnovers in the second half allowed CF to continue to cut into the lead giving them a chance for the win in the closing seconds. IRSC was led in scoring by Miles Coleman with 26, Jai Clark 20, and DeJuan Lockett added 18 points.
