Indian River Sweeps South Florida State College
FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River defeated South Florida State College 11-3 on Tuesday, thanks in part to a seven-run sixth inning. Smith homered to center field, scoring three runs, an error scored one run, Loreto hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Valdes singled, scoring one run.
A sacrifice fly by Shields put The River on the board in the bottom of the first. A single by Cochran extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Wilkinson earned the win for Indian River in the circle. The pitcher allowed four hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking two.
Indian River accumulated 13 hits in the game. Shields went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Piar, Seabrook, and Alvey each collected multiple hits for The River. Piar paced the lineup with two walks. Overall, the team showed patience at the plate, accumulating five walks in the game. Piar, Shields, and Seabrook each stole multiple bases for Indian River, as the team ran wild on the base paths, amassing 13 stolen bases.
In Game two, Eekhoff was dominant in the circle, ringing up 14 strikeouts in Indian River's 5-2 victory over South Florida State College. Eekhoff allowed two hits and two runs over seven innings while walking none. Indian River got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Alvey tripled, scoring two runs, Gendron doubled, scoring one run, and Wolfe singled, scoring one run.
South Florida State College's starting pitcher gave up 11 hits and five runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one.
Indian River totaled 11 hits in the game. Alvey provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led The River with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Wolfe went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the team in hits, while Terito collected two hits in three at-bats. Eekhoff threw an immaculate inning in the fourth, striking out the side on nine pitches. Indian River also stole five bases.
Indian River plays at home on Wednesday against the Czech Republic National Team in its next game.
