The River Goes 2–0 to Open Paradise Cove Tournament

FORT MYERS, FL - Indian River opened play at the Paradise Cove Tournament on Friday with two impressive victories, highlighted by a dramatic walk-off win and a dominant performance in the circle.

The River took its first game of the day in thrilling fashion, securing a 6-5 walk-off victory over Chipola Lady Indians. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Loreto delivered the game-winning hit, singling to score one run.

Shields led the offensive attack, collecting three hits in four at bats. Shields singled in the first inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and added another single in the sixth inning.

Chipola Lady Indians opened the scoring in the first inning after Rodgers hit a sacrifice fly, bringing home one run. Indian River quickly responded in the bottom of the frame when Gendron grounded into a fielder's choice, helping The River tie the game at one.

An error gave The River a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. Chipola Lady Indians regained the lead in the top of the sixth after Essary singled to center field, Arce singled down the right field line, Spires hit a sacrifice fly, and The River committed an error, with each sequence producing a run.

Indian River answered in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game with timely hitting. The River evened the score at five on a single by Regan Means, setting the stage for the walk-off heroics.

Wilkinson earned the win for The River, allowing eight hits and five runs (three earned) over six innings while striking out five and walking two. Grantham started the game for Chipola Lady Indians, surrendering 12 hits and five runs (two earned) over five and two-thirds innings. Eekhoff added a strong relief appearance for The River, tossing one inning of no-run ball, allowing zero hits while striking out one.

The River finished with 12 hits in the contest, with Loreto and Terito each recording multiple hits in the team's first win of the tournament.

Indian River carried that momentum into Game 2, defeating College of Southern Idaho by a score of 5-1. Johnson delivered a perfect performance at the plate, collecting four hits in four at bats. She singled in the second, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, accounting for three of The River's five runs on the day.

The bottom of the lineup played a key role in the victory, as Eekhoff, Johnson, and Smith combined for six of the team's nine hits. The trio scored four runs and drove in two.

The River opened the scoring in the first inning when Gendron grounded out, bringing home one run. The team added another run in the second after Shields worked a walk.

Eekhoff started in the circle for The River, delivering a dominant outing. The starter allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings while striking out eight. Wilkinson followed with two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief, surrendering zero hits and striking out two.

Shields and Smith each drove in two runs for The River, while Shields also showed patience at the plate with two walks. As a team, Indian River demonstrated discipline offensively, drawing six walks and swiping three stolen bases.

With two strong wins to open the event, The River looked ahead to Day 2 of the Paradise Cove Tournament after an impressive start on Friday.
