The River Splits Sunday Doubleheader with Seminole State

FORT PIERCE, FL - Sunday was a split day for Indian River against Seminole State College, as The River dropped a heartbreaker in game one before bouncing back in dominant fashion in game two.

In game one, Sunday's matchup against Seminole State College was a tough loss for Indian River, as The River lost the lead late in a 2-1 defeat. The game was tied at one in the top of the seventh when an error allowed one run to score.

Both teams were strong in the circle. Seminole State College pitchers struck out two, while Wilkinson and Eekhoff worked together to sit down seven. Seminole State College opened the scoring in the third after Nieves doubled, bringing in one run.

Piar tripled to center field, helping Indian River tie the game at one in the bottom of the third. Eekhoff stepped into the circle first for The River. The starter surrendered five hits and one run over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking two.

Piar went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Gendron led Indian River with two hits in three at-bats. The River turned one double play in the game.

Indian River responded in game two, easily dispatching Seminole State College 8-0 to split the day.

The River got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Alvey doubled to center field and Terito singled down the right field line, each driving in one run. Indian River added another run in the third after Johnson singled to center field.

Eekhoff earned the win for The River. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out one and walking one.

Johnson and Shields each collected two hits for Indian River. Johnson and Gibson were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs. The River also stole three bases in the game.

Indian River returns home on Tuesday to face Eastern Florida State College in their next matchup.
