Indian River Sweeps College of Central Florida

OCALA, FL - Indian River had a dominant day on Saturday, sweeping College of Central Florida with 13-1 and 3-1 victories.

In game one, Shields collected three hits in three at bats as Indian River rolled to a 13-1 win. Shields singled in the first, second, and fourth innings to lead the offensive attack.

Indian River got on the board early in the top of the first inning after Shields singled, scoring two runs, Gibson singled, scoring one run, Gendron tripled, scoring one run, and Cochran doubled, scoring two runs.

A single by Shields, a single by Alvey, and a ground out by Gendron helped The River extend their early lead in the second inning.

Wilkinson earned the win for Indian River, allowing three hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, while striking out five and walking two. Meneely started in the circle for College of Central Florida, surrendering 13 hits and 13 runs (12 earned) over five innings, with two strikeouts and four walks. McDonald and Gomez each threw scoreless innings in relief for The River.

Indian River totaled 13 hits in the game. Gendron, Cochran, Kramer, and Alvey each drove in two runs. Piar collected two hits in three at bats. The team also showed patience at the plate, drawing four walks. Piar and Shields each stole multiple bases, combining for six stolen bases in the game.

In game two, both teams were strong in the circle, but Indian River secured a 3-1 win to complete the sweep. Eekhoff started for The River and recorded all 21 outs.

Indian River got on the board in the top of the second inning after Eekhoff walked and Shields singled to left field, each driving in a run.

Eekhoff earned the win, allowing two hits and one run over seven innings while striking out seven and walking two. Chavis started in the circle for College of Central Florida, allowing nine hits and three runs over seven innings, with two strikeouts and four walks.

Piar, Eekhoff, and Shields each drove in one run for The River. Shields led the team with four hits in four at bats. Seabrook collected two hits in three at bats. Eekhoff also led the team with two walks, as Indian River again showed discipline at the plate with four total walks. Shields stole two bases, bringing her total to three in the game.

Indian River now heads back home to take on Florida Southwestern on March 16 at 3 and 5 PM.
