Indian River Splits Doubleheader with Florida Southwestern

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River fell to Florida Southwestern State College 5-2 in game one on Tuesday before bouncing back with an 8-0 victory in game two.

Florida Southwestern State College got on the board first in the opening inning of game one when a wild pitch brought in a run. A double by Livingston extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the second.

They continued to build momentum in the third inning after Nishiya singled to center field, and an Indian River error allowed two more runs to score.

The River responded in the bottom of the third when Cochran hit a solo home run to center field to put Indian River on the board.

Yzaguirre earned the win for Florida Southwestern State College, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings while striking out four and walking one. Wilkinson started in the circle for The River, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) over three innings, with two strikeouts and three walks. Gomez pitched four innings in relief, giving up two hits and one run while striking out one and walking three.

In game two, The River came out strong and never looked back in an 8-0 win.

Indian River opened the scoring in the first inning after Terito grounded out, bringing in a run. The River added to their lead in the second inning when Piar hit a sacrifice fly and Shields singled to the left side of the infield, each driving in a run.

Eekhoff earned the win for Indian River, delivering a dominant performance with one hit allowed over six scoreless innings, while striking out six and walking two. Graham started for Florida Southwestern State College, allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) over two and one-third innings, with one strikeout and one walk.

Indian River tallied 12 hits in the game. Cochran provided power in the middle of the lineup, leading the team with two RBIs while going 2-for-3. Shields led the way with four hits in four at-bats, and Johnson added two hits in three at-bats. The River also recorded five stolen bases.

Indian River now looks ahead to a Saturday doubleheader against Daytona State College on March 21.
