Indian River Sweeps Doubleheader Against Polk State
FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River showed resilience and consistency on Tuesday night, earning an 11–3 win in game one before following up with a 3–1 victory in game two to complete the doubleheader sweep over Polk State.
In game one, after a slow start, Indian River found its rhythm in a big way, using a dominant middle stretch to power past Polk State, 11–3. The River weathered a two-run first inning from Polk State, settling in defensively after falling behind 2–0 while waiting for the offense to ignite.
Anaise Piar got things started with a base hit, and aggressive baserunning combined with pressure at the plate helped Indian River cut the deficit in half. From there, the momentum began to shift and Indian River never looked back.
The game turned completely in the bottom of the fourth.
Indian River erupted for six runs in the inning, stringing together quality at-bats up and down the lineup. Khloie Kramer and Sophia Loreto set the table with back-to-back hits before the heart of the order delivered. Jaci Alvey came through with a clutch two-RBI single to give Indian River the lead, and McKinzie Smith followed with a two-run double to break the game open. Moesha de Paula capped the inning with an RBI knock as the River surged ahead 7–3.
In the sixth inning, Indian River added four more runs to put the finishing touches on the win. Alvey continued her standout night with an RBI triple, while Smith stayed hot with another extra-base hit to drive in a run. Indian River's aggressive approach on the bases and timely hitting kept Polk State on its heels throughout the night.
Alvey led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Smith added two doubles and three RBIs of her own. Piar also contributed a multi-hit game at the top of the lineup, helping set the tone.
In the circle, Indian River pitching settled in after the first inning. Marissa Wilkinson kept the game within reach early, and Abril Gomez was dominant in relief, striking out five over the final innings to shut the door and secure the win. Indian River finished with 13 hits and showcased a complete team effort, combining timely offense, aggressive baserunning, and solid pitching down the stretch.
Indian River carried that momentum into game two, taking control early and never letting it slip in a 3–1 win over Polk State behind a dominant second inning and strong pitching.
After a quiet first, Indian River broke through in the second with timely execution. Capitalizing on traffic on the bases, the River pushed across three runs, highlighted by RBI efforts from Anaise Piar and Eliza Johnson to give Indian River all the cushion they would need.
From there, it was all about control. In the circle, Emma Eekhoff kept Polk State off balance all night, going the distance while striking out eight and limiting the damage to just one late run. The defense backed her up with clean, error-free play and key outs in pressure moments.
Offensively, Hezzy Seabrook sparked the lineup with a multi-hit performance, including a triple, while Jaci Alvey added two hits of her own to keep the innings alive.
Polk State threatened late in the seventh, but Indian River stayed composed, trading an out for a run and closing the door to secure the win.
Indian River now looks forward to a doubleheader at home versus Polk State College.
