The River Sweeps St. Petersburg

FORT PIERCE, FL - The River earned two strong wins over St. Petersburg on Saturday, taking Game 1 by a score of 8-0 and Game 2 with a 7-1 victory.

In Game 1, Piar collected three hits in three at bats to lead The River offensively. Piar tripled in the second inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

The River got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Smith lined out, and Kramer flew out, each scoring one run.

Indian River added two runs in the second when Piar tripled to center field, making the score 4-0.

A sacrifice fly by Smith extended the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Wilkinson earned the win for The River. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Walker started in the circle for St. Petersburg, allowing 10 hits and eight runs (six earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out one and walking three. Gomez threw two innings of scoreless ball in relief, allowing zero hits, striking out three and walking one.

In Game 2, The River continued to add runs in a 7-1 victory over St. Petersburg.

The River got on the board first in the first inning when Gibson singled, scoring one run.

The River added two runs in the third after Terito doubled to center field.

Eekhoff earned the win for Indian River. The pitcher surrendered five hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. Williamson took the loss for St. Petersburg after allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one.
