Indian River Sweeps Eastern Florida State College in Friday Doubleheader
MELBOURNE, FL - Indian River defeated Eastern Florida State College 4-0 in game one on Friday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Gomez and Wilkinson each pitched in the game, with Gomez inducing a double play to record the final out.
Indian River opened the scoring in the first inning after an error allowed one run to score.
Wilkinson earned the win for Indian River. The hurler surrendered two hits and zero runs over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking two. Mills began the game for Eastern Florida State College. The starter allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking two. Gomez pitched two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief for Indian River, allowing one hit while striking out one and walking none.
Loreto led The River with two runs batted in. Gibson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Indian River in hits. Shields also went 2-for-4 at the plate and contributed to the win. Shields stole two bases, helping Indian River record five stolen bases in the game.
Indian River continued its strong performance in game two, earning a 4-2 victory over Eastern Florida State College.

Velazquez grounded into a fielder's choice, helping Eastern Florida State College tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Eastern Florida State College took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when an error allowed one run to score, giving them a 2-1 advantage.
Indian River responded in the top of the fifth inning to regain the lead. Seabrook hit an inside-the-park home run, Shields tripled to center field, and Gendron hit a sacrifice fly, each driving in one run.
Eekhoff earned the win for The River. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking three. Rosales stepped in the circle first for Eastern Florida State College, allowing eight hits and four runs over five and one-third innings, striking out none and walking none.
Gendron, Shields, Seabrook, and Gibson each drove in one run for Indian River. Gibson led the team with two hits in three at-bats.
