Indian River Drops Doubleheader to Santa Fe College

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River fell in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Santa Fe College, losing 5-0 in Game 1 and 6-2 in Game 2.

Santa Fe College opened the scoring in the first inning of Game 1 after English doubled, bringing in two runs. They added three more runs in the second inning when Murch doubled to make the score 5-0. Mancillas led things off in the circle for Santa Fe College, giving up six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking three.

Shields went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Indian River in hits. Murch drove the middle of the lineup, leading Santa Fe College with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Blankenship, Frierson, and Murch each collected two hits for Santa Fe College.

In Game 2, Indian River fell 6-2 despite out-hitting Santa Fe College seven to six. Piar and Cochran each collected two hits for The River. Santa Fe College got on the board in the top of the third inning after Bender walked, Indian River committed an error, Murch doubled down the left field line, and Frierson singled, each scoring one run.

Eekhoff started the game for Indian River, surrendering six hits and six runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking four. Woods stepped in the circle first for Santa Fe College, allowing seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out one and walking none. Smith and Cochran each drove in one run for Indian River as The River battled at the plate in the doubleheader.

Indian River now looks ahead to April 14 as they travel to Miami Dade for another tough conference battle.
