Indian River Sweeps College of Central Florida

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River picked up a pair of wins over College of Central Florida on Saturday, earning an 11-3 victory in game one and a 2-1 win in game two.

In game one, Shields collected three hits in four at-bats, as The River defeated College of Central Florida 11-3. Shields singled in the second, third, and fourth innings to lead the offensive effort. The River got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Gibson singled down the left field line, Gendron singled to right field, and Wolfe grounded out, each driving in a run. The River added two runs in the second, highlighted by Alvey's single to right field to make the score 5-1. Indian River extended its lead with three runs in the third inning thanks to RBI singles by Kramer and Shields.

Wilkinson stepped in the circle first for Indian River. The starter surrendered three hits and three runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking one. Gomez tossed two innings of shutout ball in relief, allowing one hit while striking out two and walking none. Indian River collected 14 hits in the game. Johnson and Shields each had three hits, while Gendron and Gibson added two apiece.

In game two, both teams were strong in the circle, but The River edged College of Central Florida 2-1. Emma Eekhoff started for Indian River and recorded all 18 outs. Eekhoff struck out 14 batters, allowing just one hit and no runs over six innings while walking three. The River opened the scoring in the first inning when Terito homered to center field, driving in two runs.

Meneely started for College of Central Florida, allowing two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out none and walking one. Gendron appeared in relief for The River.

Terito led Indian River with two RBIs, going 1-for-3 on the day. Piar, Shields, Alvey, and Terito each recorded a hit.

Indian River now looks to take on Florida SouthWestern State College in a top-10 matchup on April 21 at FSW.
