The River Splits Doubleheader at Polk State

WINTER HAVEN, FL - Indian River split a doubleheader with Polk State on Tuesday, falling 6-1 in game one before bouncing back with an 8-0 victory in game two.

In the opener, The River was outscored 6-1 despite out-hitting Polk State seven to six. Loreto led Indian River with three hits.

Polk State got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Foster walked, Hurst flew out, and Indian River committed an error, each scoring one run.

Polk State added another run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run to right field by Foster.

Wilkinson stepped in the circle first for Indian River. The starter surrendered three hits and four runs (one earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two. Peterson led things off in the circle for Polk State. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.

Indian River responded in game two with an 8-0 win behind a dominant performance from Eekhoff in the circle. The sophomore struck out 11 batters while allowing just two hits and no runs over four innings, walking three.

The River broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning. Alvey singled to score two runs, Gibson added a two-run single, and Terito homered to center field, bringing home two more runs.

Indian River got on the board in the top of the first inning after Terito walked and later scored on a passed ball.

Wende started in the circle for Polk State, surrendering eight hits and eight runs (six earned) over four innings while striking out one and walking three. McDonald threw one inning of scoreless relief for The River, allowing no hits while striking out one and walking none.

Gibson and Alvey were a force together in the lineup, each collecting two hits while batting back-to-back. Gibson, Alvey, and Terito each drove in two runs in an important win for Indian River.
