ST. PETERSBURG, FL - The River secured the series win over St. Petersburg College, taking three of four games against the Titans after splitting Saturday's doubleheader and earning a 10-inning victory in the resumed game two matchup.
Indian River fell 3-2 in game one on Saturday despite collecting six hits, led by two-hit performances from Jaci Alvey and Eliza Johnson. The River struck first in the top of the first inning after Alvey doubled to center field and Loreto drew a walk, each bringing in a run to give Indian River an early 2-0 advantage.
Pitching was strong on both sides throughout the contest. St. Petersburg pitchers combined for three strikeouts, while Indian River's staff recorded six strikeouts in the game.
St. Petersburg responded in the bottom of the third inning when Rivera singled to score one run before Schleissing delivered a two-run double to give the hosts a 3-2 lead.
The River continued to battle but was unable to complete the comeback in the close contest.
Lamb earned the win for St. Petersburg after allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings while striking out three and walking three. Marissa Wilkinson took the loss for Indian River, pitching six innings and allowing three runs, none earned, on five hits while striking out six without issuing a walk.
Game two was originally halted in a 1-1 tie due to rain before Indian River traveled back to St. Petersburg on Thursday, May 7, to complete the matchup. The River battled through 10 innings and came away with the victory, officially clinching the four-game series over the Titans 3-1
