The River Welcomes Becca Hewitt as Head Softball Coach

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River State College Athletics is excited to announce Becca Hewitt as the new Head Softball Coach at The River. Hewitt joins Indian River after a highly successful coaching career, where she established a reputation for building championship-winning programs, developing student-athletes, and fostering a culture of excellence. She will bring a proven track record of success, strong leadership, and a championship-caliber mindset to The River softball program.

Becca Hewitt, a native of Hinesville, Georgia, has built an impressive reputation as both a player and coach throughout her softball career. A standout athlete at Pinewood Christian Academy, Hewitt was a five-year starter who primarily pitched but showcased her versatility by playing every position on the field. During her prep career, she earned All-Region and All-State honors in all five seasons.

Hewitt continued her playing career at the collegiate level, competing at South Georgia State College, East Georgia State College, Coastal Georgia, and the University of South Carolina Beaufort. She later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Sport Management and Master's Degree in Kinesiology from Georgia Southern University.

Her passion for coaching began early, working with the Evans County Recreation Department and serving as a volunteer coach for Pinewood Academy's junior varsity softball team. Following her collegiate career, Hewitt joined Superior Fastpitch Academy where she instructed pitching and hitting while coaching both the 12U and 14U travel teams.

In 2015, Hewitt entered the collegiate coaching ranks as an assistant coach at East Georgia State College before being named head coach one year later. From 2016-2019, she led the program to a 78-46 overall record while establishing a competitive culture centered on discipline, development, and accountability.

Hewitt took over the softball program at Middle Georgia State University in 2019 and elevated the program to new heights, compiling a 106-60 overall record. Her final season proved historic as the team finished 43-14, captured the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, and earned an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament.

During the 2023-2024 season, Hewitt continued her success at Reinhardt University, leading the Eagles to another 40-win season, a Top 25 national ranking, regular season and conference tournament championships, and pushing her collegiate coaching career beyond 200 career victories.

Following her success at Reinhardt, Hewitt spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Alabama A&M University, where she contributed to the continued development of student-athletes competing at the NCAA Division I level. During her time with the Bulldogs, she gained valuable experience recruiting, player development, and helping student-athletes navigate the demands of competing at the highest levels of collegiate softball. Her time at Alabama A&M further strengthened her commitment to developing well-rounded young women and preparing them for success both on and off the field.

Reflecting on her time in Huntsville, Hewitt is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Alabama A&M family.

"I would like to sincerely thank Alabama A&M University, the administration, student-athletes, and coaching staff for two incredible years. My time in Huntsville was filled with meaningful relationships, unforgettable memories, and experiences that helped shape me both professionally and personally. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Daley, whose mentorship, leadership, and example taught me lessons that will stay with me throughout my career. Alabama A&M will always hold a special place in my heart and in my coaching journey, and I wish the Bulldogs nothing but continued success moving forward."

Now, Hewitt brings her passion, energy, and championship mindset to Indian River State College.

"I am incredibly excited and honored to join the River family at Indian River State College. The tradition, culture, and commitment to excellence here made this opportunity truly special. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our student-athletes, investing in their success both on and off the field, and competing at the highest level while representing this program and community with pride. I cannot wait to get to work and be a part of something great at The River."
