On Thursday Evening IRSC women's basketball program traveled to Ocala, FL to face College of Central Florida. The River knew the game would be a revenge match after losing at home to the Patriots 63-46. In the first quarter, the River came out playing extremely well leading 29 to 14 at the end of the first quarter. As the game progressed there were several ties and lead changes throughout the entire game. Central Florida would eventually go up by 5 points but the River battled back to go up by 10 points with 3 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. However, Central Florida went on one last run which caused then to win 76-75.
Coach Robinson noted, "tonight the girls came out and executed the game plan which cause us to put forth a good fight, I am truly proud of the progress we made tonight as a team. I am hoping this same energy and effort carry on as we prepare for first round of conference play."
The River was led by freshmen guard Jocelynn Small who contributed 18 points, 5 steals and 4 rebounds. Angelica Flores added 16 points and Mariah Perez came off the bench to contribute 15 points shooting 50% from behind the arc. In addition, freshmen center Leah Dunn was one rebound short of her second double double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The River will be back in action January 12th on the road against Palm Beach State in the first round of conference play.
