Indian River traveled to Leesburg Saturday, September 16th. The volleyball team played two tough matches and couldn't find a way to pull out victories against two ranked opponents.
Florida State College at Jacksonville was a very scrappy team and found a way to outlast the Pioneers in 4 sets: 25-19, 13-25, 18-25, 22-25. Freshmen, Lindsay Glynn (10 kills, 1 block, 1 ace, 5 digs), Taylor Leander (9 kills, 7 digs), and McKenna Tyson (8 kills, 2 blocks, 3 aces, 3 digs) provided much of the offense in the match. While, Jordan Shoemaker (33 assists, 1 ace, 7 digs) was part of the reason of their success and Becca Sills (14 digs) was holding down the defensive end for IRSC.
In the second match of the day, Hillsborough, showed exactly why they are the #4 ranked team in the state. Indian River fought tough in the first set, before the Hawks were able to pull away at the end. IRSC was swept by HCC: 25-23, 25-19, 25-21.
