Pioneers make trip to Palm Beach for quad match

The volleyball team traveled down to Palm Beach State for a quad match on Friday. They came up short against an experienced Florida College. The Pioneers lost the first two sets, 19-25 and 13-25. They took the 3rd set from FC, 25-23, playing some great defense to keep them alive and force a fourth set. Florida College came out very aggressive in the fourth set winning the match 11-25. The offense was evenly spread as there were four players with 5 kills. Jordan Shoemaker added 22 assists and 12 digs in the match while Libero, Becca Sills added 21 digs and 2 assists.

In the second match of the day, Florida State College at Jacksonville swept the Pioneers in 3 sets, 15-25, 19-25, 15-25. FSCJ was relentless on defense and very aggressive on offense as IRSC struggled to find ways to score. Sarah Egbers had 4 kills, 10 digs, and an ace while Essi Penttinen had 9 assists, 2 kills, 2 digs, and an ace for the match.

The two losses drop Indian River to 5-9 on the season and 2-1 in Southern Conference play. They will be in action again on Saturday, October 7 at home. At noon they will go up against former conference rivals, Eastern Florida State, and will see SCF-Manatee at 4:00.
