Pioneers Claim First Conference Win of the Season

BRADENTON, FL- The Indian River State College volleyball team kicked off their weekend with a dominant performance on Friday, September 6, securing their first conference win of the season against the State College of Florida (SCF). The Pioneers swept SCF in three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-21, continuing their strong start to the 2024 season.

In the first set, the Pioneers came out firing, establishing a quick lead behind aggressive serves and well-placed attacks. The team's efficient passing allowed them to stay in system, giving their hitters ample opportunities to put the ball away. Despite some resistance from SCF, IRSC maintained control throughout, closing the set at 25-18.

The second set was a tighter battle. SCF adjusted their defense and forced longer rallies, but the Pioneers remained composed. Strong defensive plays, highlighted by key digs and blocks, helped them fend off several late SCF surges. IRSC managed to pull away with consecutive points, finishing the set 25-23. The third set saw SCF come out more determined. However, the Pioneers, displayed timely kills and serving runs to help them gain momentum, closing out the match with a 25-21 victory.

Next match for The Pioneers is tommorrow, September 7th at St. Petersburg College.
