Pioneers Take Series Against Eastern Florida

MELBOURNE, FL- Indian River ended up splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, March 8 against Eastern Florida, ultimately dropping the series 2-1. In game one, the Pioneers walked off Eastern Florida with a 2-1 victory, but in game two, they fell 11-1. The Pioneers now improve to 17-7 overall and 8-4 in the Citrus Conference.

The Pioneers took game one in dramatic fashion, securing a 2-1 walk-off victory over Eastern Florida. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the seventh when Matty Davis doubled, scoring Brett Patten from first. Andris Barroso earned the win for Indian River. The righty gave up zero hits and no runs over one and two-thirds innings of work, earning his third win of the year. Freshman Shane Lavin got the start on the mound, allowing five hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings.

Offensively, the Pioneers were kept under wraps, collecting only five hits in the game. Jake Weatherspoon had two hits and drove in the other run.

Indian River dropped game two 11-1 to Eastern Florida. The Pioneers held on to a 1-0 lead going into the fourth inning when miscues and timely hitting by Eastern Florida turned the game on its head, leading to eleven runs over the next two innings. Jake Weatherspoon had the lone RBI, coming in the first inning for the Pioneers. Matty Davis, Scout Simpson, and Jacob Souza each collected a hit.

Javi Miranda took the loss for the Pioneers. Miranda went four and one-third innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits while striking out seven. Brian Ehrlich and Jonathan Wolaver finished the game for Indian River.

Indian River will be back at home on Tuesday, March 11 as they host Keiser JV at 2 PM.
