Indian River Takes Game One on the Road

SANFORD, FL- Indian River opened the series with an 8-3 victory over Seminole State, improving to 22-7 overall and 12-4 in Citrus Conference play.

The River jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning after Jason Lashley hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Matty Davis crushed his third home run of the year, driving in three runs. Indian River added more insurance runs in the third when Brett Patten singled to bring in a run, and Maikol Lucena launched his second home run of the season in the top of the sixth.

Lucas Glendinning earned his fourth win of the year. The sophomore right-hander pitched six innings without allowing an earned run, striking out eight. Justin Minaberry followed with a strong outing, throwing one inning without allowing a hit or a run while striking out two. As a team, Indian River collected 11 hits. Brett Patten and Matty Davis each recorded three hits, while Scout Simpson set a career high with five walks in six plate appearances. On the bases, The River was aggressive, stealing seven bases on eight attempts.

Indian River will be back at home Saturday, March 22 as they look to take the series against Seminole State.
