Indian River Rolls Past Miami Dade

FORT PIERCE, FL - Indian River State College won big over Miami Dade, 11-1, in six innings via the mercy rule. The River improves to 29-10 overall and 19-6 in the Citrus Conference standings.

A solo home run by Miami Dade put them on the board first, but Indian River was quick to answer. Brett Patten tied the game 1-1 with a blast of his own to lead off the bottom of the first. The scoring continued in the second with a Shawn Andrade single giving The River a 2-1 lead.

A four-run third inning pushed the lead to 6-1, with big swings from Scout Simpson and Jake Weatherspoon, each driving in runs.

Indian River added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game in a ten-run mercy rule. Matty Davis hit a solo home run—his fourth of the season—and Jake Weatherspoon hit a sac fly to drive in the final run.

Andris Barroso secured his fifth win of the season in relief. The sophomore from Key West gave up four hits, allowing no runs over two innings, and struck out two. Lucas Glendinning allowed five hits and one run over four innings in his twelfth start of the season.

The River tallied ten hits in the game. Brett Patten, Maikol Lucena, and Scout Simpson each collected two hits for Indian River. Lucena, Simpson, and Weatherspoon each had two runs batted in.

Indian River will travel to Miami Dade on Saturday, April 12 for two games to finish the series.
