Late Inning Surge Lifts Florida Southwest Past the River
FORT PIERCE, FL - The River couldn't recover from a big inning by Florida Southwest, falling 11-3 on Tuesday.
Florida Southwest broke the game open in the third inning, putting up seven runs to take control. The scoring started with a three-run home run to left field by April-Gath, one of two long balls in the inning.
The River answered in the bottom half of the third when Andy Schroeder launched a three-run home run to left, providing all of the team's offense on the day.
Ethan LaPointe got the start for the River, tossing one scoreless inning with one strikeout. Mitchell started for Florida Southwest, allowing three runs on three hits over two and two-thirds innings while striking out three and walking three.
Schroeder led the River offensively with three RBIs, going 1-for-3 from the three-hole. Niko Benested added a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-2.
Defensively, the River played a clean game, turning one double play and committing no errors. Burns led the team with five chances in the field.
Indian River drops to 15-16-1 overall. The River will be back at Mike Easom Field Thursday as they host Eastern Florida at 5 p.m. in Citrus Conference play.
