River Falls in Slugfest to Eastern Titans
FORT PIERCE, FL - EJ Burns drove in five runs on two hits, but the River came up just short in a 13-12 loss to Eastern Titans on Thursday in a high-scoring battle.
The River tallied 17 hits on the day, while Eastern Titans racked up 21 in a back-and-forth offensive showcase.
The River struck first in the opening inning when Andy Schroeder launched a two-run home run to center field. Burns followed up in the second with a three-run shot to left, giving the River early momentum.
The River added to their lead in the third inning, drawing RBI walks from Burns and Camren Bakeer to go ahead.
Eastern Titans responded in a big way in the fourth, erupting for six runs on six hits to take a 10-7 lead. A two-run single by Thomas highlighted the inning.
The River answered right back in the bottom half, as David Pina crushed a home run to right field to even the game at 10-10.
Eastern Titans regained the lead in the sixth inning with a pair of RBI hits from Yero and #17. The River once again responded, tying the game after an RBI single by Burns and an RBI triple from Bakeer.
The deciding moment came in the top of the eighth when Richardson delivered an RBI single to push Eastern Titans ahead 13-12, a lead they would not relinquish.
Javi Miranda got the start for the River, allowing eight runs on 11 hits over 3.2 innings, striking out three and walking two. Link started for Eastern Titans, giving up seven runs on eight hits in two innings.
The River offense stayed hot throughout, with Schroeder and Jacob Souza each collecting three hits. Anthony Espinoza, Bakeer, and Finn Duran also had multi-hit performances. Souza showed discipline at the plate, drawing two walks as the River totaled seven walks overall. The defense added a double play in the contest.
Record Update: The River now stands at 15-17-1 overall and 8-11 in Citrus Conference play.
Next Up: The River will travel to Eastern for a doubleheader on Saturday.
