Daytona State Takes Two from The River on Saturday
FORT PIERCE, FL - The River dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader to Daytona State, falling 13-10 in Game 1 and 16-4 in Game 2.
In Game 1, the River's bats were strong against Daytona State, but it wasn't enough as the River fell 13-10. Daytona State collected 14 hits, while the River had nine.
Daytona State opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to three home runs. The first came when Donatucci hit a solo shot to left field. They added two more runs in the third on a home run to left by Vinciguerra.
The River answered in the bottom of the third to make it 7-6. Schroeder hit a solo home run to left field, and Pina followed with a single that drove in two runs.
The River tied the game in the fourth thanks to a single by Niko Benested and a home run to center field by Souza.
In the top of the fifth, Daytona State broke the tie when Waddingham doubled to score one run. A home run to left field by Duque followed, extending the lead to 13-10.
Blake Anderson started the game for the River, giving up six hits and seven runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking four. Williams started for Daytona State, allowing six hits and six runs over two and one-third innings, with two strikeouts and three walks.
The River piled up nine hits in the game. Baker and Benested each collected two hits, while Souza and Pina drove in three runs apiece. The River turned one double play and played error-free defense, with Benested handling a team-high 11 chances.
Daytona State totaled 14 hits. Duque led the way with seven RBIs, going 3-for-4. Duque and Waddingham each had three hits, while Schincariol and Vinciguerra added multiple hits. Daytona State also turned a double play and committed no errors.
In Game 2, the River had trouble keeping up with Daytona State in a 16-4 loss.
Daytona State opened the scoring in the second inning when Falloon homered to left field, driving in two runs.
The River tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to two doubles, including an RBI double by Espinoza.
In the third, Daytona State regained the lead when Vinciguerra was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in a run. A sacrifice fly by Duque extended the lead to 4-2.
Gonzalez added to the lead with a two-run home run to left field in the fifth inning.
Daytona State broke the game open in the eighth, scoring five runs on three hits. Schincariol doubled in a run, Duque drew a bases-loaded walk, Falloon singled in another run, and both Lopez and Donatucci were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to bring in runs.
Gonzalez started on the mound for the River, allowing six hits and five runs over three and one-third innings while striking out six and walking three. Beard started for Daytona State and pitched six and one-third innings, giving up eight hits and three runs while striking out seven.
The River recorded 10 hits in the game, led by Benested's 3-for-3 performance. Espinoza, Schroeder, Baker, and Pina each drove in a run. The River again played clean defense, committing no errors, with Dinzeo leading the way with 10 chances.
Daytona State finished with 17 hits. Falloon drove in four runs while going 4-for-6. Schincariol, Duque, Vinciguerra, Gonzalez, and Wilson each had multiple hits. Waddingham drew three walks as Daytona State showed strong plate discipline with nine walks in the game. They also turned one double play.
