Indian River Splits at Home

FORT PIERCE, FL- Indian River State College split Saturday's doubleheader against Daytona State College, falling 6-0 in Game 1 before bouncing back with a dominant 9-1 victory in Game 2. The Pioneers now hold a 10-3 overall record and are 2-1 in Citrus Conference play.

Game 1

Indian River struggled to keep up with Daytona State in a 6-0 loss. The Falcons struck first in the second inning and continued to add runs, including two home runs later in the game. Javi Miranda got the start for the Pioneers but had his outing cut short after three innings, allowing one run and taking his first loss of the season. Sammy Beir came in relief, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing two runs. Offensively, the Pioneers were shut out for the first time this season, struggling to generate consistent at-bats. Maikol Lucena was a bright spot, recording two hits and continuing his strong start to the season.

Game 2

The Pioneers responded in Game 2 with a dominant 9-1 win in seven innings. Indian River got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double from Matt Lashley, scoring Brett Patten, followed by a fielder's choice from Sean Duffin to bring in another run. Brett Patten had a big game, launching his first home run of the season in the second inning. Freshman Shane Lavin earned the win, his second of the year, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out five. Sophomores Andris Barroso and Justin Minaberry each tossed a scoreless inning of relief to close out the game. The Pioneers racked up 12 hits, led by sophomore Matty Davis, who collected three hits and drove in two runs, including the game-winning hit. Maikol Lucena and Jacob Souza also had multi-hit performances.

Indian River will return to action on Tuesday at home against ELV8 at 6 p.m.
