The River Takes Game One on the Road

BRADENTON, FL - Indian River and State College of Florida played a taut affair on Thursday, but the River eventually prevailed 10-9. The game was tied at eight in the top of the fifth when Cam Baker doubled, scoring one run.

Andy Schroeder collected three hits in four at-bats in the win. Schroeder hit a home run to left field in the third inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and singled in the second inning.

The River got on the board in the top of the second inning after Cam Baker singled to center field and Vinny Dinzeo grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.

In the bottom of the second inning, State College of Florida went back into the lead after Castellani doubled to center field, Rawls singled down the right field line, and Burd singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

The River took the lead, 5-3, in the top of the third thanks to home runs by EJ Burns and Andy Schroeder.

State College of Florida took the lead in the bottom of the third. Burd hit a grand slam to left field to give State College of Florida the leg up, 7-5.

The River jumped back into the lead in the top of the fourth inning after EJ Burns grounded out, Jacob Souza grounded out, and Andy Schroeder doubled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Woodward doubled to center field, which helped State College of Florida tie the game at eight in the bottom of the fourth.

The River took the lead in the top of the fifth. Cam Baker doubled, scoring one run, to give the River the lead, 9-8.

Dane Rossi pitched four and one-third innings in relief for the River. The reliever gave up two hits and one run while striking out eight and walking one. Gavin Stedmen opened the game for the River. The hurler gave up seven hits and seven runs (five earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking three. Ray stepped on the mound first for State College of Florida. The starter surrendered nine hits and seven runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one.

The River accumulated 17 hits in the game. Kramer went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the River in hits. Cam Baker, Niko Benested, Vinny Dinzeo, and Finn Duran each collected multiple hits for the River.

State College of Florida collected 11 hits in the game. Burd led State College of Florida with five runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The catcher went 3-for-5 on the day. Kaitz and Burd each collected three hits for State College of Florida. State College of Florida ran wild on the base paths, piling up three stolen bases in the game. State College of Florida turned one double play in the game.
